| researching the meaning of my chosen prompt, I immediately knew I did not want to approach this literally. I viewed this from a social perspective, asking myself "What is seen as an "error" in the eyes of society?" From there, I brainstormed various ideas until I came upon my first submission titled "UnProFesSioNAL". I have seen a lot in the media about how black people have been looked down upon or singled out in the workplace simply because of their hair. Their natural hairstyles have been seen as unfit or inappropriate for the work place. This was a true exploratory piece as I have not done a collage in a while. However, the collage aligned with the idea of thing being unfit. I included cutouts of natural hair and various words & quotes to give the audience a clear idea of what issue I was addressing. |

| F*ck Femininity Breadth Media: Oil paint, Acrylic Paint and Spackle Size: 18x24 in. Despite its imperfections, I do like how this piece turned out. It was very time consuming as the flowers are 3-dimensional and working with the spackling paste was difficult at times. I was thinking of changing the background color to something that complimented the rest of the piece a little better. |
