Concentration

Concentration Statement

While I could never come up with a clever name for my concentration, I knew that I wanted it to deal with the universe and black people. From the time I've become serious about my art, I have always enjoyed incorporating different features of the universe into my art. Whether it be planets, stars, or galaxies, I loved extraterrestrial elements. As far as the inclusion of black people, I wanted to add that in because I feel as though I don't see it enough. For me, I haven't seen much representation of black people in today's museums and art galleries and for me, that is important. Being that I do not see it enough, I thought I would be the change. So for the work you are about to witness, this was me trying to amalgamate the beauty and power of black people with the coolness of the universe.

The Universe Revolves Around You
Media: Watercolor Paint
I believe that we all have some kind of connection to the universe. In this piece, I wanted to interpret that concept. Everything our solar system is interconnected, similar to the different features of this painting. I tried to keep the colors bright to incite a happier mood.

Miss Universe

Going along with my concentration, this piece was was created with that theme in mind. My largest struggle with this was finding what color planets would compliment the pink background. I may go in and completely change the color scheme.

Universal Aphrodisiac
Media: Soft Pastel & Charcoal
This piece was my first exploration with the listed medium. As the first work forms concentration in the universe and human beings, I wanted this to have a more dramatic feel. The black paper evokes that drama while the person's expression with the elongated neck does the rest.
