Two Faced Media: Acrylic Paint This was my attempt at expressionism art. I tried not to think too hard when making this piece and just let everything flow. This was the end result. The two sides were meant to portray two opposing moods. On one side we had a lighter feeling and the other more ominous. This portrayal gave a nice contrast to the work that I enjoyed |

Scarlette Media: Oil Paint As my first true piece with oil paint, creating this work taught me how well this media blends. I am often asked why did I not include eyes. As the eyes are said to be the "windows to the soul", my subject is a soul-less individual, hence the lack of pupils. This piece marks when I first fell in love with this media |

UnProFesSioNAL Media: Magazine Clippings & Acrylic Paint I viewed this from a social perspective, asking myself "What is seen as an "error" in the eyes of society?" From there, I brainstormed various ideas until I came upon my first submission titled "UnProFesSioNAL". I have seen a lot in the media about how black people have been looked down upon or singled out in the workplace simply because of their hair. Their natural hairstyles have been deemed unfit or inappropriate for the office. This was a true exploratory piece as I have not done a collage in a while. In addition, the collage aligned with the idea of things being unfit. I included cutouts of natural hair and various words & quotes to give the audience a clear idea of what issue I was addressing. |
